PECOS enrollment update - Enrollment must be current by Jan. 3, 2011

There has been much confusion in recent weeks regarding physician enrollment in PECOS, or the Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System. Though the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently issued a final rule stating that the deadline for PECOS enrollment has been moved up to July 6, Medicare contractors have received no instructions regarding this change. Last week Trailblazer issued a statement indicating it will continue to process claims regardless of PECOS enrollment status through Jan. 2, 2011.
