In 2005, Novant Health of North Carolina initiated a system-wide hand hygiene program designed to save lives through the reduction of hospital-acquired infections. Three years later, Novant Health achieved 99 percent hand hygiene compliance and reduced MRSA infections by 63 percent and won the Joint Commission’s Codman Award for their efforts.
