Lynn A. Barbour, MD, Professor of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology with the University of Colorado Health Science Center, will compare the 2009 Institute of Medicine (IOM) guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy to the 1990 IOM guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy, review the key data in justifying the new guidelines, present data that challenges the 2009 recommendations, and underscore other risk factors in pregnancy that increase the risk for childhood obesity.
